Looking for the perfect holiday appetizer? You already have the prosciutto wrapped pears from last week to take to one party, but obviously you can’t take the same thing to every party so here’s a new one: rosemary roasted grapes on a crostini smeared with honey cream cheese and drizzled in honey. It’s bound to be a hit for three reasons. One: it’s not little smokies. Little (or should I say ‘Lil?) smokies are good but one can only eat so many in the span of a month. Two: it’s unique. I mean, have you ever eaten roasted grapes? Maybe you have since you’re a foodie but most people probably haven’t and newsflash: they’re delicious! Especially when tossed with fresh chopped rosemary. Finally, reason three: the combination of those yummy grapes with cream cheese and honey is pure heaven. Oh, and I lied, there’s four reasons. There’s bread in this appetizer. I heart carbs.
I have to let you in on a little secre about this appetizer: it’s vegan. It’s made with GO Veggie! Dairy-Free Vegan Plain Cream Cheese Alternative so if you have any friends or family with special diets that don’t allow cheese, you can make them happy too. Finally! Another little secret: even the non-vegan/non-lactose intolerant folk will gobble these up. They won’t even know they’re eating vegan cream cheese. Case in point: I used another tub of it for an appetizer (recipe coming soon!) that I sent with Marc to guys night and he came home with an empty dish.
I admit, never in a million bajillion years did I think I would be eating, none-the-less, promoting a dairy-free product (besides my beloved almond milk) but alas, here I am. Telling you that GO Veggie’s dairy-free (vegan) cream cheese is totally worth the try. While today’s recipe features the plain version, they also have Garlic & Chive and Strawberry varieties, both of which I’ve tried and am a fan. Want to try it yourself?! Have I convinced you to make this appetizer yet? It is so good! Another great thing about this recipe is that all of the components can be made ahead of time. The roasted grapes will taste just as good at room temperature so you can roast them ahead of time. The honey cream cheese can be made in advance, too. The only thing that I would caution against is toasting the bread too far in advance – it might get hard and stale. You could either not toast the crostini bread, or if you toast it ahead of time just make sure you use a softer bread to start with. Then just drizzle the honey immediately before serving and voila – an impressive, tasty, EASY holiday appetizer!
