Baby E #3: First Trimester

That's right - we're having another baby!! I announced it on Instagram and Facebook last week but failed to write a blog post about it. I figured this first trimester post could double as the blog announcement. So yes! We are expecting our third baby in May 2020 and are so incredibly excited!

How far along are you? 13 weeks and a few days

Generally Feeling: Better than I did a couple of weeks ago. The first trimester was rough for me this time around. With my first two pregnancies, I had some mild nausea after I ate for a couple of weeks, but nothing like the all-day sickness I had this time around. Basically weeks 6-11 I woke up feeling sick, would eat something small for breakfast like half of a muffin or a smoothie, and would feel sick for the next few hours. Then I would become RAVENOUS around 11:30, eat a regular sized lunch, and feel sick until dinner. Dinner was usually my best time of day and some days I would eat dinner and feel decent and others I would feel crappy until bed. Rinse and repeat. I also had the standard first trimester exhaustion and by early afternoon I was spent. Naps with two kids is pretty rare but I snuck one in a few times while Lars had a little extra screen time. Desperate times called for desperate measures! The last two weeks have been increasingly better, but I still feel sick in the morning and randomly feel sick after lunch sometimes. I'm hopeful that I'll start feeling back to normal pretty soon!

Cravings: I'm not sure why, but when I felt extremely nauseous, the only thing that sounded good to me was junk food and carbs. I had random cravings for foods that I haven't eaten since high school, including Orange Julius, Stovetop stuffing, and Chick Fil-A. The one craving that has been consistent is the Chick Fil-A and I'm actually kind of happy that this craving has instilled a new love of fried chicken and waffle fries for me. I mean, it could be worse...maybe? Sweets haven't sounded that great to me, which is obviously strange for me, but possibly because I usually have dessert at night and generally was feeling crappy and exhausted by the time of day so I just didn't bother. Who knows!

Food Aversions:  Nothing in particular but I can't say I did a great job eating my fruit and vegetables the past couple of months...they just didn't sound appealing.

Weight Gain:  At my last doctor appointment, I hadn't gained anything, even lost a couple of pounds. I suppose due to the fact that I've felt nauseous the past few months! I'm sure this will quickly ramp up soon!

Looking Forward To:  Getting some energy back and having a normal appetite all day long!

Miss anything: Feeling normal and having energy to do normal things like housework, working out, and playing with the kids!

Movement: Not yet.

What I’ve Been Loving: Sharing this pregnancy with our kids! Lars was SO excited to find out he's getting another sibling and was great at keeping our secret. We actually told him the day we found out, and he didn't tell anyone on accident! Soren has been like Lars was when I was pregnant the second time around...he points to my belly and says "baby" but does he really know what's happening? I doubt it 🙂

Maternity Clothes:  Nope. My belly is somewhat growing, especially at the end of the day, but I still fit in my normal jeans and clothes at this point. With Lars I started wearing maternity pants around 16 weeks, so I'm guessing my days are numbered.

Boy or Girl:  A girl!! We had the early genetic testing done to make sure everything looked good, and opted to find out the gender, too. After two boys, we would have been overjoyed to have another boy, and needless to say we were shocked to learn we are having a girl!

  1. Maybe it's something about those baby girls! I was more nauseous and also craving carbs/junk food like the potato chips I used to eat in high school! So weird!
