Lucky Charms Oreo Truffles

Lucky Charms Oreo Truffles are an easy and fun St. Patrick's Day dessert, with a fun splash of color and flavor from Lucky Charms cereal!  These would also be a fun rainbow or unicorn birthday party dessert!

Lucky Charms Oreo Truffles

St. Patrick's Day is coming up and I have a super fun dessert for you!  I already have Lucky Charms Marshmallow Bars on the blog, and now I'm bringing you another fun Lucky Charms treat!

Today's treat is a spin off of Oreo truffles.  I think of Oreo truffles as a holiday treat that can be adapted for whatever holiday it is.  Around Valentine's Day you can use Red Velvet Oreos, at Thanksgiving you can use Pumpkin Oreos and at Christmas - Peppermint Oreos!

For St. Patrick's Day I was thinking about using some green food coloring with Golden Oreos, but then I remembered Lucky Charms.

Lucky Charms Oreo Truffles

The base of these Lucky Charms Oreo Truffles is based off the typical Oreo truffle recipe, with an entire package of Golden Oreos and a package of cream cheese.  I threw in a cup of Lucky Charms, too.  These are, after all, Lucky Charms Oreo Truffles!

I tried to stuff as many marshmallows into the cup of Lucky Charms, because I really wanted some little specks of color in the truffles. They are delicious after a main dish of Turkey Shepherds Pie or Reuben Casserole!

After the truffles get dipped in vanilla almond bark (or white chocolate!), I took individual Lucky Charms marshmallows and smashed it between my index finger and thumb to decorate the top of each truffle.  They ended up super colorful and now that I think of it, these would be great for a rainbow or unicorn birthday party, too!

Tips for Making Lucky Charms Oreo Truffles

  1. Use regular Golden Oreo Truffles - not Double Stuffed!
  2. Chill truffles before dipping.  This will make the dipping much easier when they are chilled.  I either pop mine in the freezer for 15-20 minutes or the refrigerator for 30-90 minutes.
  3. Use a cookie dough scoop.  To get uniform sized truffles, use a cookie dough scoop to initially portion them out, and then use your palms to smooth out the edges.
  4. Sprinkle Lucky Charms marshmallow dust on the dipped truffles immediately.  If you want too long (like, longer than 30 seconds), the almond bark will have already started to harden and it won't stick.

Course: Dessert
Cuisine: American

Total Time: 1 hour
Servings: 25 truffles
Calories: 120kcal

Ingredients

  • 1 15.25 ounce package Golden Oreos
  • 1 cup Lucky Charms cereal the more marshmallows, the better!
  • 8 ounces cream cheese at room temperature
  • 1 package vanilla almond bark
  • additional Lucky Charms marshmallows for crushing and topping

Instructions

  • Place Golden Oreos in a large food processor and pulse until it resembles fine crumbs.
  • Add Lucky Charms and pulse until chopped coarsely.
  • Transfer Oreo/Lucky Charms crumbs to a bowl and add cream cheese.
  • With a spatula or electric mixer, combine the cream cheese and crumbs until one uniform dough is formed. I like to use my hands for this, too.
  • Form into 1-2 tablespoon sized truffles. The size of the truffles depends on your preference!
  • Place truffles onto a parchment paper lined baking sheet and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes - or up to a couple of hours. This will help when dipping them. You can also speed up the process by placing them in the freezer for 15 minutes.
  • Once chilled, melt almond bark according to package directions.
  • Dip each truffle into melted almond bark and return to baking sheet. Immediately crush one Lucky Charms marshmallow between your fingers on top of the truffle. The almond bark dries quickly - so be sure to do it immediately after you dip it!
  • Serve and enjoy!
  • Store truffles in the refrigerator.

Notes

The yield depends on how large you make your truffles.
