Lavender Lemon Sugar Cookies

After visiting a lavender farm in Seattle and having a lemon lavender cookie, I became pretty obsessed with the idea of creating my own version. Fast forward 8 months later and I'm in my kitchen, thinking of a Ziploc baggie of lavender that my mom gave me, and feeling the urge to make some lavender lemon cookies.  Can I just say I think I nailed it?! This lavender lemon sugar cookie recipe is chewy, full of lemon flavor and the perfect hint of lavender!

  • zest of 1 large lemon
  • 1 tablespoon dried lavender
  • ½ cup unsalted butter at room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice

  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar for rolling

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, combine sugar, lemon zest, and lavender and rub all together between your fingers for about 1 minute.
  • Combine sugar/lemon zest/lavender with butter in a large bowl with electric mixer.
  • Beat on high for 1 minute.

Still giving five stars as the recipe is fine as-is. I will, however, cut back on the lavender a bit next time. I also had to flatten them half way through the bake cycle. Not a big deal.

What can I sub for egg in this to make it vegan? Made them exactly following your recipe and absolutely adored them, but want to share with a vegan friend 🙂 thanks!

    1. Hi Katie,
I have never made these without eggs, so I cannot say for sure. I do know some replacements for eggs in baking can be applesauce, oil, or flaxseed eggs, but I'm not sure how they would work in this recipe. Sorry!

      Taylor

    2. I just made these with Bobs Red Mill egg replacer and earth balance vegan butter. They came out perfect and they look like I bought them at a fancy bakery.

These are some of the best cookies I have ever had & they're always a huge success!! Is there a way to make them sturdy enough to decorate & not be too soft?

    1. Thanks so much Aviana! I don't have any experience with decorating them but I would imagine if you put them in the refrigerator they would be more sturdy and easier to decorate...good luck!

Just made these on a whim after I saw lavender in the supermarket. I LOVE them!!!! The lavender goes so well with the lemon, who would have thought that would be a match made in heaven?! My cookies turned out funny shaped but they were to die for!

Tried these with the fresh lavender from my garden so I doubled it. Also went light on the lemon zest and added about 1/2 tsp of lemon thyme. These are awesome. 6 cookies disappeared before I got them put away. There are only 2 of us here!
    Thank you.

I have been a baker most of my life, over 50 years. Taylor is right...she nailed it with this recipe.
I grow my own lavender so love making lavender cookies. Added extra lemon zest and used a small ice cream scoop. This recipe made 48 cookies that are one or two bites!. My oven runs a little hotter, so baked at 350 for 9 minutes and they were perfect. Thanks for the great recipe. I would send a picture but don't know how! haha

  7. I almost never leave comments on recipes, but these cookies are incredible! Even my Mom (who usually dislikes lavender) raved about these and asked me to send her the recipe. Like a commenter above, I also put a bit of lemon zest in the sugar that I used to roll the cookies.

Thanks for this recipe--it's absolutely wonderful, and it will be my new go-to cookie recipe!

I was looking for a cookie recipe with lavender and came across this in a Google search. Oh my goodness, am I glad I did! These are some of the most delicious cookies I’ve ever baked.

  10. These are outstanding!! Made them last night and haven't stopped eating them since! Easy recipe, easy to make. Perfect balance of lemon and lavender. I did substitute the baking soda with baking powder for a more soft and fluffy cookie.

This recipe is AMAZING!! The dough is sticky to work with, so I threw it in the fridge for 10 min, that helped make it easier to roll in the sugar. They come out soft with crunchy edges and so much flavor!! Thank you for sharing this!
