Can I just start by saying how much I LOVE being a mom?! I know people told me it would be the best thing ever but I just had no idea how amazing it really is. It’s the BEST thing EVER!
Oh man – so much has changed with Lars in the past two months! He is developing such a personality and it’s so fun to interact with him. He giggles when we tickle him or do something he thinks is funny, he reaches and grabs for everything that’s in our hands, and smiles at me when I walk into the room which pretty much melts my heart instantaneously.
He has also found his voice and loves to use it. He is no longer just cooing, but also squealing, grunting, and laughing out loud. He learned how to blow raspberries which is just hilarious. Except when he has food in his mouth. Then it’s not so funny.
He’s also made some other big milestones like rolling over from front to back and back to front, and he’s *thisclose* to crawling! He started doing planks a couple of weeks before Christmas which turned into getting onto all fours and rocking. Now he’ll get on all fours and put one hand and the opposite knee forward, but that’s about as far as he’s gotten. Soon though! I’m savoring the last few days of his immobility 🙂
We started solids with him around 4 1/2 months, but kept it pretty casual, meaning nothing too structured and if he wasn’t interested I didn’t force things, until around 6 months. Now he generally eats two-three times a day and is actually eating a pretty substantial amount. While he has been slow to warm up to some foods like broccoli and carrots, he generally ends up loving everything after we try them a few times.
His favorites are sweet potatoes, bananas, avocado, strawberry oatmeal, peas, apples, and pears.
I have been making all of his baby food which has been super fun and a lot easier than I had thought. I ended up buying three baby food cookbooks: The Amazing Make-Ahead Baby Food Book, Little Foodie: Baby Food Recipes for Babies and Toddlers with Taste, and 201 Organic Baby Purees. While all of them are great resources, my favorite is Little Foodie for its layout and clear age-appropriate labels for each recipe.
In his last update I talked about how we were trying to get him into more of a schedule and I feel like we’ve definitely settled into a napping/eating schedule with him the past month or so. He’s now napping three times a day and I think (fingers crossed!) he’s trending towards longer naps, too. While his first nap is typically only 45-60 minutes, his afternoon naps have been increasing to 1 1/2-2 hours long. He typically goes to bed around 6:45 p.m and wakes up around 7 a.m., with 1-2 feedings throughout the night. I’m also hoping we can nip those night feedings pretty soon!
Highlights from the past 2 months:
Thanksgiving. My dad, stepmom, stepsister and her husband came to town and stayed with us…it was a blast! We ran a Turkey Trot in the morning and spent the day leisurely cooking for an evening dinner since Marc was working during the day.
Trip to Kansas City with my mom to visit my Aunt Penny and her family. Lars took his third plane ride and was a champ both ways. In KC we did what my family does best – ate, drank, and lots of Lars cuddles!
Santa! My sister-in-law and I took our boys to see Santa for the first time. Lars loved his beard!
Christmas with all of our families. My dad, step-mom, brother, and step-sister, came to visit the week before Christmas, and then we went up to the cabin for six days over Christmas. Then my mom, step-dad, and brother came to celebrate Christmas over New Years Eve. It was a busy couple of weeks but I wouldn’t trade that time spent with our loved ones for anything!
That’s about it! Life with Lars is pretty great and I can’t wait to see what the next two months hold.
