This tropical smoothie has coconut, strawberries, orange, and bananas and is naturally sweetened with honey. A tasty and healthy way to start the day!This week I’m in a weird phase of pregnancy where I definitely look pregnant to those who know I’m pregnant, but to those who don’t, it’s still a little questionable. I guess you could say I just haven’t ‘popped’ yet.
While I could really care less what strangers think about my belly, it’s a different story when it comes to my patients at work. For the patient’s I’ve been seeing for a month or two now, it has just become a little awkward. I’m not just going to come out and say I’m pregnant because um, that’d be weird. And I’m pretty sure it’s just not good manners to ask any woman if she’s pregnant. Even if she looks 9 months pregnant, you never ask.
I can definitely tell some of them are suspicious, though, and lately I’ve been getting more questions like “Soooooo do you have any kids?” or “When do you think you’ll start having kids?” which are obviously baiting for me to come out and say I’m expecting.
Sometimes I will then tell people I’m pregnant, but to those I don’t feel like sharing it with, I just answer “Nope, no kids yet” or “Probably soon” which are both 100% truthful answers, right? My response also depends on how much “parenting advice” I feel each of my patient’s is going to give me.
I didn’t really understand just how miserable it is to listen to someone give advice on parenting, pregnancy, giving birth, etc. until I recently had a female patient lecture me on breast feeding. In a clinic full of other people. I mean, that’s awkward right? So – lesson learned that I do not have to discuss my pregnancy with anyone I don’t want.
None of that really has much to do with today’s smoothie – just something that’s been on my mind. But speaking of this smoothie it’s one of our new favorites! My typical standby smoothie is spinach/kale, banana, peanut butter, and almond milk, but lately I’ve been itching to switch things up. Since citrus is in season right now, I decided to give the traditional strawberry banana combo a tropical twist with orange and coconut.
It ended up super refreshing and full of flavor. One of my favorite tricks to making smoothies is using frozen fruit. If you don’t have time to freeze your fruit ahead of time, you can definitely add some ice in there, but know that using frozen fruit will give you a much creamier end result.
This recipe gets a lot of the creaminess from the frozen banana, and is naturally sweetened with the other fruit and just a spoonful of honey, making it a delicious and healthy way to start your day!
