Wow. Where did November go?! Is it really almost Thanksgiving already? It definitely doesn’t feel like the middle of November in my mind, but the changing weather sure does. It’s actually not even close to how cold it gets in the Midwest in the winter, but I am already starting to unconsciously brace myself for the cold every time I go outside. It hasn’t come close to being as cold as it gets in the dead of winter but still, it’s getting colder and colder each day and I am feeling more sorry for myself the colder it gets. Pity party = comfort food.
My new comfort food is polenta. Seriously, if you haven’t tried creamy polenta yet, you owe it to yourself to make it. It has all of the comfort-food-bases covered: it’s creamy, filling, cheesy, and warm. What more could you want on a chilly fall/winter day? It was exactly what I wanted on a particularly cold and windy day. So I knew I wanted polenta, but I wasn’t sure what else to put with it. The creaminess of the polenta lends itself to be a great pairing with something a little more bold. A spicy sausage and pepper sauce perhaps? Bingo. The combination was heavenly and pure comfort.
