Happy Monday! To kick off Lars’ birthday week, I put together a list of his favorite things/our favorite things! This list is a mix of toys and activities that he loves along with things that help us survive like his new toddler alarm clock. Let me know your favorite toddler things in the comments!
Strider Balance Bike – Without a doubt, this is Lars’ absolute favorite thing. He was gifted his Strider bike when he was barely a week old. While it seemed like it would be forever until he could actually use it, time actually does fly and at this point he’s pretty much a pro at it. Every time he goes out on it we are amazed at how fast he is and how good his balance is becoming.
Radio Flyer All-Terrain Stroll ‘N Trike Ride On – We gave this to Lars for his first birthday and he continues to really like it. I love that you can adjust it as the kid gets older. I also love that it has the handle so you can guide it. Lars hasn’t been able to peddle quite yet so we do a combo of trying to teach him to peddle and just pushing him. The sun shade is also great for those hot sunny summer days!
Trucks. All. The. Trucks. Lars is obsessed with all things trucks right now, so much so that he sleeps with his favorite trucks. He was just given this huge Tonka truck for his birthday from nana and he loves putting things in it and dumping them out.
Mega Blocks/Duplos. He has liked these for quite awhile now and really the fascination just keeps growing. He’s probably more into the Duplos than the Mega Blocks these days because he loves this set where you can build a train and move it around.
Water Table – If there is one summer item I would recommend, it would be a water table! It is easy fun in the summer heat and can help keep everyone cool. We’ve lost a few of the water table toys but really simple plastic cup or measuring cups do the trick!
Cozy Coupe Car – I got this for Lars last year off our neighborhood website, and while last year he just kind of sat in it because he couldn’t figure out how to push himself in it, he really loves it this year. He can use his feet to move the car down the sidewalk, and loves to push the horn and say “beep beep!”
Books! While Lars really never wanted to sit still long enough to read to him when he was a baby, he is completely into reading these days. His favorites are any book about trucks, Curious George, anything Sandra Boynton, and Little Blue Truck.
Picnic Table – Lars got this as a birthday gift last year and while he did use it a couple of times last summer, this summer it has been a lifesaver. He loves eating outside and this picnic table makes outdoor meal times SO much easier. He also loves to sit at it and color or read books.
Land of Nod Toddler Chair – Lars loves sitting in his chair while we read him books. Sometimes he’ll let us sit in it with him on our lap, but these days he’s been insisting that we sit on the hardwood floor while he gets the comfortable chair. So that’s fun 😉
Stuff We Love As Parents
Miracle Munchkin 360 Sippy Cups – these are probably our favorite cups for Lars to use. They teach him how to drink from a real cup while being mostly spill-proof. The exception is when he drops it on the ground, and it splatters a little. Other than that, these are awesome sippy cups!
OK To Wake Clock – Lars went through a pretty long phase of waking up before 6:00 every. single. day. and it got old REALLY fast. I had seen some other moms of toddlers rave about the OK To Wake Clock, but didn’t think Lars would get the hang of it, as he was only around 18 months. After a few desperate months of waking up way too early, I finally gave it a try and I wish I hadn’t waited so long! It definitely took a week or two for Lars to catch on and he’s still an early riser (waking up between 6:15-6:45), but I’ll take that over 5:30 any day!
Baby Bjorn Crib – We’ve been using this since he was an infant and we continue to get a ton of use out of it. I love that it’s really easy to put up and take down, and it compacts really easily into it’s carrying case.
thinkbaby Sunscreen – I did some deeper research this year on the safest sunscreens for kids and it turned out the sunscreen I used last year was just a total green wash. This thinkbaby sunscreen was on the SafeMama and EWG “approved” list and we love it! It smells great and goes on super easily. I actually debated between this one and the Beautycounter sunscreen but decided to go with this one based on cost. So far, it’s working great.
Cat & Jack Clothes – This is hands down our favorite brand of clothes to buy for Lars. They are SUPER affordable and incredibly cute. It doesn’t hurt that it is sold at Target. The brand came out around the time when Lars was turning one so now that we’re expecting baby boy #2, I can’t wait to buy some of the brands clothes for babies!
Re-Play Made Plates and Bowls – I just bought these but am really loving them for serving Lars his breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. Before these I only had two toddler-friendly plates and I was really sick of serving him meals on breakable dishes. These are super easy to stack and I love the simple colors.
Smarty Pants Multivitamin Gummies for Kids – I would say overall Lars is a pretty good eater. He definitely has his quirky food preferences (no meat except for rotisserie chicken and bacon) and some days subsides on bagels, cream cheese, fruit, and mac and cheese, but there are also other days where he steals my salad, eats hummus by the spoonful, and asks for seconds of quinoa. For the days when nutrition is lacking, I feel good that he is at least getting his multivitamin gummies. They are recommended for kids 3+ so I just don’t give him the recommended 4 gummies per day. Most days I give him 2.
iPad Headrest Mount – This has been a real lifesaver for road trips when it’s just Lars and I. Whether it’s to keep him from falling asleep on a mid-morning drive out to Marc’s parents house or a trip to Iowa, Bob the Builder and Thomas the Train are our best friend. This headrest mount is super cheap and does the trick!
Whew! That’s it. I’ll be back tomorrow with a new recipe!
