Oh my gosh you guys…we’re SO close to being done with our hike of the John Muir Trail.  Today’s a tough one as we hike a whopping 18 miles.  We started this morning from the Lake at 12,250 feet and immediately start going up in elevation.  Doesn’t this seem like a cruel trend of this trial?  Up and down, up and down.  Luckily after that short mile climb, we get to go down again.  While our guidebook goes on and on about the wildlife and geological wonders we’ll see, the one thing that is standing out to me is the spot we will reach with “Required Human Waste Bags” that we must use from this point on.  I think I’ll hold it until we’re done tomorrow.  TMI?  Sorry.  We end our day at Guitar Lake for one more night sleeping under the stars.

I’m not sure when or why it happened, but I’d say a few years ago I stopped drinking cow milk and transitioned to almond milk. I had tried soy milk before almond milk and didn’t really care for it, but I was instantly hooked on almond milk from the moment I tried it. Like, chug straight from the carton hooked. My absolute favorite is Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk and even without any added sugar I particularly love the hint of sweetness it adds to my smoothies and cereal.

I’m pretty simple when it comes to my smoothies, and my typical combo is almond milk, peanut butter, banana, and spinach. Maybe a dash of cinnamon if I’m feeling crazy. I don’t have a regular stock of protein powder, so when I saw Silk came out with a new almond milk containing additional protein and fiber, I was excited to try it out.

I was also inspired to try something outside of my typical peanut butter and banana smoothie. I’m all for combining my morning needs (nutrition and caffeine) so I picked up a box of Chai Tea concentrate to give it a try with my new almond milk. I also threw in a frozen banana for creaminess and that was it. So simple! The combo of the vanilla almond milk, chai tea, and banana in this protein smoothie was the perfect way to get my engines started in the morning.

Prep Time: 5 minutes

1 smoothie

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Silk Protein + Fiber Almond Milk
  • 1/2 cup Chai Tea concentrate
  • 1 frozen banana

Directions

  1. Place all ingredients in blender and blend until smooth.
  2. Pour into cup and enjoy!
