dog birthday cake

Friday was Maddie’s 1st birthday, so like any proud puppy-mama I bought party hats, made her a birthday cake, and had a birthday party for her.  And when I say “birthday party” the attendees were me, Marc, and Maddie.  But there was singing involved so it was definitely a party.  Side note: you will never feel cooler than when you are singing happy birthday to your dog on a Friday night.  Never.

Anyways, on such a monumental day I couldn’t help but think of how much joy Maddie has brought to our lives in her first year of life.  She has brought us so many laughs and smiles, countless dog kisses, and gives Marc a run for his money at “best cuddler in the house”.  We’ve been through our ups and downs with her (including a trip to the emergency vet clinic last week) but we couldn’t ask for a better dog than Maddie.

Not surprisingly, Maddie demolished her birthday cake.  But not before licking all the frosting off first.  Thatta girl.

Happy 1st birthday Maddie!

Dog Birthday Cake

for the cake:
1 cup flour
1 egg
1/3 cup peanut butter
2/3 cup pumpkin puree
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup water

for the frosting:
2 tbsp sour cream
the rest of the can of pumpkin

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Mix together all of the cake ingredients.  Bake in greased 9″ cake pan or 3-3″ cake pans for 20-25 minutes, until cake is done through.  Cool completely.

To make the frosting, mix together the sour cream and pumpkin, and frost to your (and your dogs!) liking.
